Kathryn Silvera Art

Hi, I'm Kathryn and I'm a cheese obsessed book nerd who loves art.

When I’m not researching for a project I can probably be found in Bidwell Park.  We're blessed here in Chico, California to have an enormous City park, and I walk there from my house every day.  It's glorious.  Otherwise, I'm either reading, making food(yay!- because then I get to eat it), on the road with my husband or traveling, which is both exhilarating for me, and an exciting form of inspiration for my art.

I hope my art brings you as much happiness as it does me, because I LOVE making it.  I wish I could see all your faces when you walk past your favorite piece because that smile, that joy, is infectious, uplifting and inspiring all at once.

Rathbun Studios

Rathbun Studios is owned by Doug Rathbun, artist living and working in California. Rathbun is renowned for his realistic metal sculptures depicting various types of sea life, visions and transformations of worldly creatures lit from within, glowing with life energy.

Born in 1966 in California, Doug Rathbun started at a very young age his affinity for the arts. Firstly taking drawing, then his father introduced him to photography, and later on he evolved into painting and printmaking. But he had always had a compulsion to re-shape found objects and it was until he began sculpting with found/recycled materials, influenced by the world around him and humanity’s increasingly destructive use of it, that he took art professionally. Rathbun gets inspired by his observations of the medium around him, with nature and in particular aquatic life as major influence. Today, he works primarily on reclaimed materials & mixed media sculpture and he is a member of the artists guild at Avenue 9 Gallery and Artist Guild in Chico, California.

Martin Jimenez

I was born in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. I moved to the United States with my family at an early age, and spent my remaining childhood in the Mount Shasta area, with regular visits to my hometown. The exploration of self-identity while living within two cultures, and being surrounded by rich cultural and physical landscapes, inspired my passion for art. I began taking photography and art courses in my teenage years, and I continue to learn and explore new artistic methods.

I studied science and teaching at California State University, Chico. I have worked as a professional portrait and art photographer since 1994, and as a teacher since 2000. The majority of my students have come from a similar cultural background, having moved from Mexico to Northern California in search of opportunities. In this, I have a continuous reminder of the strength required to pursue dreams not yet achieved by previous generations, such as a college education.

While family and teaching fills my heart, I am drawn to create art with a sense of strength and vitality as an expression of my past and current life experiences. I feel a deep affinity with the steady and peaceful work ethic that I saw in my family and neighbors in Mexico. I try to portray this in many of my paintings. I also use various painting and printing methods to depict movement, often using vibrant colors and geometrical designs. I have enjoyed exhibiting my artwork in local galleries. I hope that my artistic expression can offer inspiration for others to find their own voice through art.
